- Bad-mouthing your average muni is easy to do. Wear a hard-hat. The greens are pure dirt. My great-grandma could break par on that course. Yada, yada, yada. However, Cooke Municipal Golf Course — easily one of the best municipal tracks in the country — doesn’t have any of those drawbacks. Instead, it is a big-scale parkland course, championship worthy in every sense of the word, that features a wonderful mix of holes on gently undulating wooded terrain. Right from the opener — a strong, straightaway par 4 that dips down the hill — to the tight and tricky tee shot on the par-4 closer, Cooke Municipal delivers rock-solid golf for an incredible value. Just $66 for a round? That’s a steal. You would easily pay double that elsewhere for a course half as good as this one.
