Here's a report on my trip to Stratford with Vanessa M.
We arrived at our hotel, the Queen's Inn around noon on Friday.
For lunch we went to Pazzo (70 Ontario Street) and had some great pizza with Stratford Common, the only place you can find it on tap.
After a quick stop at the hotel, we went to the Festival Theatre to see West Side Story.
Then we went book shopping starting at Yesterdays Things & Books (351 Ontario Street). Vanessa bought a book from her childhood. Next was Fanfare Books (92 Ontario Street) with its good selection of Shakespeare books, especially ones for children. Off the beaten path is the Book Stage (126 Waterloo Street South). It offers a very nice selection of used Shakespeare books.
Supper was at the Sun Room (55 George Street West). Still my favourite place in town. The food is great, prices reasonable and the service is very friendly.
She was tired and retired for the evening afterwards. I went to Down the Street Bar and Cafe (11 Ontario Street) for a pint of Stratford Pilsner. I did not like that place.
On Saturday, we ate breakfast at Features.
Next was a visit to The Book Vault (131 Ontario Street). It has a great selection of remaindered books. I would have saved money if I had gone there first but it closes at 5 p.m. They have a huge selection of graphic novels. This is should be the first place to go to in Stratford.
Then we went to the Avon Theatre to see A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Next was a quick visit to Gerard Brender à Brandis: a bookmaker, but not the fun kind.
By chance I saw Jan F. and he and his wife invited us to join them for an amazing meal at Church Restaurant (70 Brunswick Street).
Jan stays at Bentley's at 99 Ontario Street. They love it.
We said our good farewells and headed home. We made a pitstop at Mohawk to end a great weekend.
